Introduction: 1

This is a very interesting topic for me. I am glad to share that the person to whom I

have made a promise to is ‘myself’. So, it is none other than me. Sounds strange

but I am really proud of it because until now I have not let myself down and I have

not broken the promise. I made a promise to myself because I feel that the best

relationship we can have is with ourselves. If we can love and respect ourselves only

then we can love and respect others.

What was the promise? Well this is very unique and special. It is the promise of only

‘two per month’. Let me explain this. This means I will allow myself to become

negative only two times per month. Getting angry, becoming upset, feeling bored

and complaining is allowed only two times in one month. If it happens more than

two times then I punish myself by not eating my favorite food. But the promise is

not broken until now.

I made this promise for various reasons. One is because I observed that I was always

complaining and getting more and angrier on people. I wanted to change this habit.

Another reason was that I was wasting a lot of time on negative thinking and so I

was not able to focus on the positive side of life. First I tried to make this promise to

my friend but then he/she started advising me and I did not like it. So I thought of

being my own judge and master and it worked. I promised myself to change, respect

and teach myself.

Well, it was not very easy to achieve this promise but I got the fruits of my sincere

efforts. I was tempted many times to complain and crib on things that I was

unhappy about. Gradually, I developed the ability and power of forgiveness and

acceptance. I started writing down my feelings and I worked on them. I gifted myself

with small things like ice cream, clothes and books whenever I felt proud of myself.

Initially this was difficult but now it is my habit to be a happy and positive human

being.

Introduction: 2

Well, we often make promises to different people with the intention to keep the promises. However, sometimes due to uncertain circumstances, we fail to keep our words.

Whom did you make the promise to?
I would like to share one such experience where I promised my friend to help, but I couldn’t.

What the promise was?
It happened the last month when my needs my friend who was taking part in a science competition called me. He said that he needs my help in making a project as he has to make a working model on a science topic.

Why you made the promise? and Was the promise easy to achieve?
Since I had taken part in many competitions like these, and I straightaway said not to worry, I will help you. In fact, I said to him that I will come a day prior to your submission will stay overnight at your place, and during this time, we will complete this project. My friend had a firm belief in me, and that’s why he was happy to hear, and now we were supposed to meet teach other on the promised day.

Unfortunately, that day my grandmother fall seriously sick, and I had to take her to the hospital where she got admitted. Instead of helping my friend in making the project had to be there with my grandmother to take care of her all night long. Inevitably, my friend couldn’t complete his assignment without my help, and he failed.

Conclusion:
However, I apologized to my friend for not being able to help him due to a medical emergency. But, I feel bad that my friend failed just because I couldn’t keep my words.

Introduction: 3

The promise means a commitment from someone to do or not do something. As a noun promise means a declaration assuring that one will or will not do something.

Whom did you make the promise to? and What the promise was?
It is an excellent habit to make some promise and make hard efforts to complete it. Two years ago, I promised my uncle that I taught her daughter at home.

Why you made the promise?
I made this promise because his daughter got injured in a road accident before one month of her school final examination. Doctors strictly warned her and restricted her to go out of the house., she did not go to school. So I promised her father that I helped her.

Was the promise easy to achieve?
It was not easy for me to teach a patient because she was suffering much pain. I tried many tricks to teach her, failed in many tricks, but got success in some. I not only taught her but gave motivations also, which improved her health too.

Conclusion:
Finally, I got success to achieve my promise when she passed in her class with good percentages.

Introduction: 5

Several times in life, we come across situations where we make commitments to different people. Today I would like to talk about one promise that I made to my family when I was in school. I was in grade 10th when I had promised my parents that I will score above 90 percent in my boards examination.
I was always an average student in school while other kids in my neighbourhood were either brilliant or above-average which sometimes made me self conscious and I was always apprehensive if I would ever be able to make my parents as proud and happy as other parents in our neighbourhood. So I made this promise to my parents and to myself that I will prove to be better than my past and show that I’m capable of performing exceptionally well even in the academics.
As there is a saying that, it is easier to make promises but it is hard to keep them. Likewise even I had to work really hard to keep this promise. I first worked on my weak points. Time management was the most essential part to achieve my goals and I drafted a good time-table with daily time-bound goals. It was not an easy task and I had to burn the midnight oil. Gradually I started seeing good results in school’s term examinations and pre boards. Finally, after a year’s preparation, I appeared for my class 10th Board exams and performed well. The results were outstanding and I was happy to keep my promise. Though it was not really easy to keep this promise but this journey towards success always helps me to be motivated in life.

Promises are part of human nature. It involves emotions where an individual give commitment of fulfilling what other person requires.

Here, I would present a moment when I made promise with my mother.
Previous year, I was struggling to crack a competitive exam. The examination date was coming closure and I was not paying proper attention towards my preparation. Moreover, those days I used mobile phone in excess amount. I would take lot of interest in playing online games.

After noticing, my carelessness regarding studies, my mother scolded me and told to be serious about upcoming exam.

I realised this was creating obstacles for my studies and I was responsible for it. At that point of time, I made promise to my mom that I will concentrate on my studies and keep myself away from distraction.

Parents can easily make you understand what is good for you and so did my mom. Additionally, she elaborated about the significance of time as well as studies.
Also, she gave me advice to make a daily basis schedule, which would help me to easily distribute time for study and leisure activities.

Finally, I understood what to do further and this led me to make promise to my mom.

A promise regarding usage of mobile phone is a bit difficult to fulfill. However, when you know it is for your good it becomes easy to achieve. It was not so easy task but, I managed to do as I diverted my attention towards my goal to crack an competitive exam.

I believe promise is something by which you ask another person to trust you. We often give self-assurance to our loved ones.
Last year, I made a promise with my best friend, whose name is “XYZ”.
The commitment was about travelling to hill station with my friend. Also, we had decided to travel Kasauli which is situated in Himachal Pradesh.

In addition, what happened was that I had visited kasauli with my family and we stayed at a resort named ‘Glenview’ over there.

Furthermore, when l returned from the journey, l shared the experience with my bestie along with that shown the photographs of the resort.

I talked about the amenities we received such as comfortable accommodation, distinct cuisine in food services and open pool at terrace.
My friend asked me to visit there on New Year’s Eve.

Additionally, I promised to go Kasauli with my friend. The promise which I made was fulfilled as we visited kasauli to celebrate New Year.

Apart from this, it was trouble – free as I already knew about the place. It was safe and fantastic journey.

Whom  you made the promise to

Many times in my life I have made the promises to many people and I am proud to say that I kept all my promises. Here I am going to talk about a promise that I made to my parents and it proved very significant for me.

What the promise was about

The promise was about limiting my time playing with my friends.

Why you made the promise

I made the promise because I was going down in my studies.

When you made  the promise + Main story

Actually, it was a time when I was in 10th class. I and my friends started playing together in the evening. In the beginning we would play only for one hour but gradually we increased the time up to 4 hours. It disturbed all my studies. As a result I failed in the first term examination. My parents got very angry and annoyed at my mismanagement of time and my bad result. I realized my mistake and promised to my parents that I would not play for more than one hour in the evening and I would pay full attention to my studies.

Whether the promise was easy to achieve

I found it very difficult in the beginning as I had become habitual for playing all the time. But gradually I recovered. I kept my promise and studied very hard. As a result I got 90% in my final exam.

So it was the promise that I made and kept.

Introduction: 9

Many people make promises regarding several things. Some people have a mean for their pledge, and some are pretty casual about making promises. And it irritates me. Because when people make promises, they dont have the intention to keep them. I dont make promises quickly, but if i do, then i try my best to fulfill them.

Last year, I made a promise to my parents to keep my health fit and fine due to coronavirus lockdown, and I use to eat a lot due to this, I suffer from obesity. and my parents are worried about me, and they always told me to avoid unhygienic food. But sometimes I ignored it. After few days, I suffer from a disc problem due to obesity. Then I make a promise to my parents that I will make my health fit in 2 months. To make my health fit, I joined Gym and started taking green vegetables, which helped reduce my obesity.

As well as it makes me energetic. It is not working in the initial stage, but still, I keep my promise, and after the third week, I started getting results, and I reduce three kilograms of my weight in 2 months. I felt so happy and light. Within four months, I achieved my goal and told my parents that I fulfill my promise. They are also pleased, and even I love to exercise in the routine because of that promise.

Introduction: 10

Many people are generally casual about making promises, and it irritates me. Why make promises or commitments you have no intentions to keep? This is one reason I don’t make a lot of promises. But If I do make a promise, I try my best to keep that promise.

What was the Promise and Whom did You Make the Promise To?

During the Coronavirus pandemic, all the citizens were asked to stay indoors due to the government imposed lockdown. I am a social animal and before the corona era, I used to spend at least three to four hours with my friends daily. As soon as the lockdown was imposed my parents made me promise them that I wouldn’t leave the house unless and until it is urgent.

Why Did You Make The Promise?

My grandparents live with us, and they were in the high-risk category due to their age. Moreover, my grandfather is also diabetic. I am quite emotionally attached to my grandparents as they have taken care of me ever since I was a kid. I am so close to them that I used to sleep on the couch in their room. All of us were worried that my grandparents might catch the virus from me if I spend a lot of time outdoors.

Was that Promise Easy to Achieve?

Hence I promised my parents that I would remain indoors rather than spend time outside with my friends. It wasn’t easy in the beginning. I was bored and I couldn’t meet any of my friends. I was not even allowed to leave the house to get groceries. I contacted my friends on the phone, we used to talk via calls and text. There were times when we used to video call each other. After some days I ran out of things to talk about. There were times when I would get irritated and frustrated but I would soon remember the reason why I had made the promise.

Ending

It got easier with time as I developed new hobbies and interests. I learned how to play the guitar, I read a lot of books and even played some indoor games with my grandmother. It has been almost a year since I made that promise, I am glad that I have been able to keep it.

Introduction: 11

I have made a lot of promises, and have fulfilled most of them. There were some promises I was not able to keep. I would like to talk about a promise I made to my parents.

What was the Promise and Whom did You Make the Promise To?

I wasn’t that good in my studies, and I had not scored good marks when I was in 11th standard. I had planned to apply to a good college for my undergraduate degree and my parents were worried about how I was going to manage after passing out from school.

Why did You Make the Promise?

I love my parents a lot, I could not see them constantly worried about me and my future. Hence I decided to buckle up and I promised them that I would work hard and score good marks in class 12th boards. I promised them that I will study wholeheartedly for the board exams.

Was that Promise Easy to Achieve?

I made a proper schedule, started solving sample papers, and also quit all the social media apps. I didn’t even meet my friends for the last 3 months before the board exams. I put all my effort and was over the moon when the results were declared. I had scored 87%, and when my parents came to know about my result, they couldn’t even stop smiling. I remember my mother even cried a little bit. All my teachers and friends were also proud of me and what I had achieved.

Ending

My parents organised a surprise party for me and they had invited a lot of my friends. I even got admission to the college of my choice. Even though I had to make a lot of sacrifices, I am glad I made the promise.

Follow up Questions

  1. What kind of promises do people make to their dear ones?

Mostly people promise their dear ones to get married to each other, buy

something on birthdays and get rid of bad habits. Parents promise children

that they will come home early and children promise the parents that they

will study well.

  1. Why do people break promises?

I don’t think that those people who break promises they intend to break it.

It is only due to their circumstances that they are compelled to break the

promise which they made. There are a few people who make promises only

to break it.

  1. Has someone ever given you a promise and broken it?

Yes many times. Most of the times my friends have broken the promise that

they have given me. However, these were casual incidences and not serious

ones. For example not coming on time and not accompanying for a movie.

  1. Do you think breaking a promise breaks someone’s trust?

Yes, if that person is young and innocent and not in a position to understand

the situation of the other person then it breaks the trust for sure. Broken

trust should be regained as soon as possible.

Most people promise when they are in love and take a harsh decision when

they are in anger. This should be avoided. Promises should be made in our

complete sanity and alertness.
