Controversies In 2018, he was charged with perjury for allegedly making false statements at the tax fraud trial of Zdravko Mamic.

    Life Journey

Luka Modrić was born on September 9, 1985, in Zadar, Croatia, to Radojka Dopuđ and Stipe Modrić. A textile worker, his mother, and an aeromechanic, his father were his parents. Even though the family’s financial situation was below average, they managed to survive. After fleeing Serbian aggressors during the terrible Bosnian War, his parents became refugees.

His family’s financial situation had been negatively affected by the Croatian War of Independence when he was growing up. His grandparents took a lot of care of him since his parents could not afford to keep him. When he was five, he worked as a goat-shepherd. Later, Serbian rebels executed his grandfather. Family members fled the area after their home was burned down.

Luka Modric joined the Croatian army during those turbulent years. The family had moved to Zadar, a city where bombings became the norm. At that time, football was the best escape for youngsters in the city, and Luka wasn’t immune. From the time he was a child, Luka was captivated by football. Although he had a short and thin frame for his age, he was gifted at playing football.

A consistent low opinion of him persisted. During the youth trial at the ‘Hajduk Split,’ he was rejected. For a long time, however, his skills went unnoticed. Working hard made him impossible to ignore. After showing steady growth in height and frame, he was signed by Dinamo Zagreb. The contract was ultimately for ten years.

His family life is kept away from the prying eyes of the media because he values his privacy. A woman named Vanja Bosnic married him in 2010. During that year, the couple became parents for the first time. The couple had two more children in the following seven years. Roman Catholicism is practiced by the family.

Luka Modric is known to be a true family man, and he has dedicated a whole room to his children, which features a climbing wall. An exterior garage can fit ten cars. The residence is also equipped with a swimming pool, a sports court, and a sprawling garden.

During the trial of former Dinamo Zagreb executive Zdravko Mamić for tax evasion, Modric testified as a witness and detailed his various contracts with the club. The perjury charge against Modric stems from the fact that he allegedly misreported dates for certain key events. There was considerable controversy surrounding this as Luka insisted he was innocent and the public opinion was divided among Croats. He was viewed as part of a corruption scandal by some, and by others as part of the cause. Perjury charges were dismissed in 2018.
